Utilize education as a tool to address poverty and gender inequality in Cusco, Peru.
About Us
Born from the NGO FairServices in October 2018, Chaska is a scholarship program that supports girls from extremely poor single-parent families in Cusco. A team of psychologists, social workers, teachers, and interns work in Cusco to provide them emotional support, additional classes, nutritious meals, and more. They also ensure the girls' education-related expenses are covered. Chaska is named after the Quechua (Cusco's indigenous language) word for star, and we follow this idea in affectionately referring to all of the program's girls as our "stars." Chaska receives support from a US-based organization with 501(c)(3) status called Chaska USA. To make a tax-deductible contribution, please contact ChaskaUSAinfo@gmail.com
Chaska is a psychology-based program that aims to break the severe cycle of poverty that is prevalent in Cusco. Impoverished high school girls with immense potential are identified and selected through extensive psychological testing and socioeconomic status confirmation.
The Chaska program is built around three pillars: 1. Financial Support 2. Educational Support 3. Emotional Support The results thus far are tangible and enormously positive. Due to this success, Chaska plans to add more girls each October.
In order to operate and expand, Chaska relies on generous donors who share a passion for fighting poverty and gender inequality. Chaska USA's 501(c)(3) status provides a great opportunity for those who wish to make a tax-deductible donation. Any and all donations are welcome, but we also offer a donation tier program in which we give back to the donor! For those who wish to become even more involved, the Chaska USA board is always looking to add additional members.
Chaska relies on committed interns and volunteers to effectively provide their services to the girls. Opportunities include psychology, social work, teaching, marketing, fundraising, and more!
